Contemporary Family Garden with Porcelain Patio & Structured Planting

Project type

Garden Design

Date

March 2026

Location

North East England

Project Overview:

This project focused on transforming a standard new-build garden into a clean, functional outdoor space designed for modern family living. The brief was to create a low-maintenance garden with strong visual structure, usable zones, and year-round interest.

The Design:

The layout was carefully considered to balance open lawn space with defined planting and entertaining areas. A central lawn provides a practical space for family use, while curved pathways and circular patio features introduce movement and soften the overall design.

Porcelain paving was selected to deliver a contemporary finish with durability and minimal upkeep. The warm tones complement the surrounding brickwork and help unify the space.

Raised beds and retained borders were introduced to manage levels and create depth, using natural stone to contrast against the clean paving lines. These features also provide structured planting zones that will mature over time, adding colour and texture to the garden.

Key Features:
• Porcelain patio and pathways for a modern, low-maintenance finish
• Circular feature patio creating a focal point within the garden
• Central lawn area for practical family use
• Raised stone retaining walls adding structure and interest
• Decorative gravel beds for drainage and low upkeep
• Structured planting scheme designed for year-round appeal
• Defined side access with integrated drainage solutions

The Result:

The finished garden is a well-balanced outdoor space that combines clean, contemporary design with practical functionality. The layout offers clear zones for relaxing, entertaining, and everyday use, while the planting will continue to soften and enhance the space as it establishes.

A great example of how thoughtful design and quality materials can transform a garden into a space that not only looks good on day one, but continues to improve over time.
