Middleton St George Garden Transformation

Project type

Garden Transformation

Date

April 2026

Location

North East England

This project in Middleton St George involved the complete transformation of a tired and impractical garden with significant level changes.

The original space featured uneven ground, failing retaining structures, and disconnected areas that limited how the garden could be used. Our brief was to create a clean, functional layout that made the most of the available space while introducing a high-quality finish throughout.

The Challenge

The key challenge on this project was managing the change in levels across the garden. The existing layout did not provide safe or practical access between areas, and the space lacked structure and flow.

In addition, the existing materials and features were dated and in poor condition, requiring a full strip-out and rebuild.

The Solution

We redesigned the garden to introduce clear structure, improved access, and a cohesive finish throughout.

Works included:
• Installation of natural stone retaining walls to manage levels
• Construction of bespoke stone steps for safe and practical access
• Preparation and installation of a new lawn area
• New patio installation to create a usable outdoor living space
• Formation of defined planting beds and borders
• Full clearance and regrading of the site

The use of natural stone allowed us to create a finish that feels both solid and in keeping with the surrounding environment, while also delivering long-term durability.

The Result

The finished garden is now a fully usable, well-structured space that flows naturally from one level to the next.

The combination of lawn, patio, and planting areas provides a balanced layout suited to both relaxation and everyday use, while the new retaining and step system ensures safe and easy movement throughout the garden.

This project is a great example of how thoughtful design and quality installation can completely transform a challenging outdoor space.
