Modern Indian Sandstone Garden Transformation
Project type
Garden Transformation
Date
Aug 2026
Location
Teesside
For this project, our brief was to create a modern outdoor space that felt larger, flowed naturally around the property and required less ongoing maintenance, whilst still retaining the character of the existing garden.
The result is a beautifully balanced landscape featuring premium Indian sandstone paving, flowing curved borders, refreshed planting and carefully designed gravel gardens that complement the property perfectly.
The existing garden had become dated and disconnected.
Although there was plenty of outdoor space, the paving lacked cohesion, movement around the property wasn't particularly inviting and the planting had become tired over time.
Rather than simply replacing the paving, we completely reimagined how the garden functioned.
The new layout centres around a generous Indian sandstone patio which flows seamlessly into curved pathways leading around the property. These sweeping lines soften the architecture of the house and naturally guide visitors through the garden.
Existing mature trees and shrubs were retained wherever practical, helping preserve instant maturity while reducing unnecessary waste. Fresh planting schemes were introduced throughout the borders, complemented by decorative gravel areas that provide texture and year-round interest.
Natural stepping stones create an informal journey through the planting, encouraging exploration without overwhelming the garden.
Particular attention was paid to the curved paving edges, ensuring every radius remained smooth and consistent whilst maintaining balanced paving courses across the entire patio.
The finished garden feels significantly larger despite occupying the same footprint.
The combination of sweeping sandstone curves, generous planting beds and natural materials creates a space that is both elegant and practical. Every area now links together naturally, providing attractive views from the house while offering plenty of usable outdoor living space.
The refreshed planting will continue to mature over the coming seasons, adding colour, texture and movement while the sandstone paving provides a timeless centrepiece that will look beautiful for years to come.
