Planning
We had previously undertaken several tasks for the customer. This project required a new patio to the side of the house. Porcelain paving was to be used to match the porcelain paving laid in the house extension by their builder. It was essential that our team worked closely with the client to ensure the project was finished in time for his daughters wedding.
Process
The area to be landscaped was originally on two levels so significant excavation was required to prepare the area for the new patio. Mature trees and conifers were cleared from alongside the existing wall to allow the raised bed to be constructed. The design showed the porcelain paving laid in a half bond pattern with minimal cuts to aid its aesthetic appeal. The raised bed was constructed from concrete blocks clad with porcelain paving to create a contemporary look, it provided a dual purpose of a planting bed and a seat. A brick slot drainage channel was necessary to allow water to drain away from the house, it was laid where the paving meets the raised bed for minimal visual impact.
Completion
A new fence and gate was installed for security and privacy. The aim of the new planting was to give privacy to/from the neighbours, therefore several tall conifers were chosen as well as three pleached trees trained to trellis’s which acted as a screen from the neighbours. To complete the raised bed, scented planting was used close to the paving on edge, particularly lavender to emit a pleasant fragrance.
